Interview

Hi Giglianni, thanks for your time today. How are things in your world this week?

Good, I would have to say. Just A LOT of work going on, MY LORD! At this moment, I am currently editing down a song, which I wrote and produced.

Ali Sei, the singer on the track, not only sang and played some awesome guitar, but also co-wrote with me.

For anyone new to you – tell us a little about your background.

Well, my real name is David Del Giglio. I am a music producer, DJ and part time gamer. Lol Any free time goes into my music. All I do is work on music 12 hours or more a day. If not, then I’m at my day job and after that it’s back to music. I have no idea why my girlfriend is still with me because I spend so much time on music. It’s really sad but I guess it is because she supports me.   I am half Italian and half Jamaican and in pure Italian culture still live at home with my supporting parents.

Where are you currently based?

I live in West Vancouver, Canada. In the basement with all my studio gear.

I love them and they love me!!!!

How did this whole music thing start for you?

I’ll try to keep it short, the music thing first started when I was about 12. My dad stuck a “Best of Jimi Hendrix” tape in his old school 1955 chevy hot rod truck. It all started from there. I begged my dad to get me a guitar from my uncle for months. He was guitarist in a country band and he built/made his own guitars.

After that I eventually started playing guitar and now here I am.

Key influences growing up?

Jimi Hendrix

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Lenny Kravitz

Q Tip

Daft Punk

Star Dust

Snoop Dogg

50 Cent

NWA

Tu Pac

Frank Sinatra

Johnny Cash

and whatever my parents listen too – list goes on.

How does that list compare to today?

Hard to say. I listen to whatever sounds cool to me. I usually get influenced by that, throw it in the back of my mind and it comes out in the studio sessions later on.

We’re just looking back on the Convenience Store EP. The EP was well received for sure, is this a sound you’ll be pushing on into the summer?

Maybe, but I’m not too sure. I’m always in and out of different sounds.

Any meaning behind the track name – ‘I’d Buy That’?

Haha. Oh yeah, it came from the movie Robocop (1987). There is a guy that always pops up on TV constantly in the movie, then says “I’d buy that for a dollar”. So I made a song out of it. I recorded myself saying it and the Idea flowed out real easy.

Talk us through your production setup. What tools did you rely on for this EP?

There is a long version and a short version to this question…

So, just quickly listing them off, I used: Nexus 2 Software Synth, Moog Sub Phatty, reverb from my effects units, some analog compression for certain instruments, I set up an auxiliary track from the drums and synths, smashed it with compression and EQ’ed the tracks to give it more of a punch, a tape machine plug-in to glue it together and finally, lightly used my R24 EQ to give the track sparkle but mainly used it for the circuitry path.

That, was the short version.

Can we expect to see you back on Electric Station?

Probably, I have a lot of finished tracks. I’m just looking for the homes (labels) for them at the moment.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

If you had to choose any other artist, alive or dead, to collaborate with, who would it be and why?

I would rather choose someone who is dead because eventually I might get a chance to rub shoulders with the ones who are alive. My pick would be JImi Hendrix, I think he would be into doing something different. Also, If I could get Frank Sinatra on the vocals, that would be sweet, but I heard he wasn’t into rock music. lol

Who is your favourite DJ and producer right now?

I would Say EDX, he’s got a cool sound. He always seems to give me likes on instagram.

Producer?

Hard to say… umm… Quincy jones I guess.

All time top 5 tracks of any genre?

Stardust – Music Sounds Better With You

Guns n Roses – Paradise City

Daft Punk – Around The World

Too Short – I’m A Player

Jimi Hendrix – Little Wing

What’s lined up next for you?

Well, I have a release with Wolfrage Records on May 7th. I also have some upcoming releases next month on my own label, Boom Boom Records, and a few bigger releases in the works. Right now its just one on one dates with my studio and local weekend DJ gigs. Just keeping it real. I’m pretty much constantly working on my music or anything music related.

Hopefully i’ll book an international gig soon though, fingers crossed.

Ibiza or Miami?

Miami

House or Techno?

House

Digital or Analogue?

Digital but I do love my analogue stuff too

Logic or Ableton?

Ableton – but I am a Pro Tools guy

An interesting facts about Giglianni?

I can’t tell you what’s interesting about myself that’s for you guys and the fans to find out or it will not be interesting – maybe that I sleep long on Sundays lol.

I don’t know, hard to say.

Unless you find me sitting down in a chair 12 hours a day interesting, there you go.

For those of you that don’t… Here’s three facts:

Fact 1. If I could marry my Moog, I would.

Fact 2. I am selfish on how I spend my time. I commit more time on music than anything else… that’s why I probably didn’t have a lot of girlfriends. I think…

Fact 3. Im not a big drinker, not really a fan of alcohol.

Any shout outs?

I give a shout out to all my friends and family who have been helping me out. You guys know who you are. For the people who have done me wrong, you have brought me to where I am now.

Thank you for having me guys and thank you for your time!
