Mike Powell has an Extraordinary John Lennon Connection

Imagine if John Lennon was still alive.

What music would be he creating? Would he still be creating art? Would he still be writing songs and releasing music? Would The Beatles still be together?

Tragically, as we know all too well, Lennon’s life was taken away from him at the age of 40, and his creativity was lost to all of us. Or was it?

Consider, for a moment, if Lennon was able to transmit his thoughts and music through someone else. Sounds ridiculous right? Maybe not.

I thought the same thing when I first heard this story, until I met the man himself – Mike Powell.

Powell is a man from Liverpool, who previously has no musical talent, but through his 30+ sightings of Lennon, he now has a library of more than 350 songs – music, lyrics and all. His first encounter with Lennon – or sighting, if you will – took place at the foot of his bed and resulted in the first song he ever wrote.

It Happened To Me

Now I’m not saying that I believe this story wholeheartedly, sure I still have some questions, but you have to admit it’s not exactly the sort of story you hear every day, and it certainly peaked my interest. During each sighting, Mike Powell is guided by Lennon as they share memories and even new journeys together. Then, after each encounter is over Powell finds that Lennon’s musical and artistic creativity is “physically transferred” to him.

All of this has lead Powell on an extraordinary journey through the music industry, even leading him to record at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.

And it doesn’t stop there. The story has been recorded in minute detail in his book ‘I Saw Him Standing There’ – see what he did there? This book is certainly a conversation starter!

To top it all off, Powell is now releasing this music for the first time in the form of a 12 track album titled ‘It Happened To Me’. It will be released officially everywhere on 21st October 2016, but you can get an advanced copy for yourself already.

Throughout the book you will hear about the many people, several of which have direct connections with The Beatles in one way or another, not only validated that the songs have some of Lennon’s trademark features all over them, but you will also hear about those that even compared Powell’s voice to Paul McCartney. See for yourself.
