Joel Ansett is ready to drop his album, consisting of folk, pop…with soul and RnB?!?

Yep, you read the title correctly; stop rubbing your eyes!

Traditionally a folk-pop singer/songwriter, Joel Ansett enjoyed considerable success with his 2012 debut release, “The Living Room” EP (an acoustic version of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”). As he enters a new chapter in his musical journey, he wanted to push the boundaries just a bit further, by adding soul and R&B to his already-appreciated fusion. Thanks to his loyal fanbase for supporting his Kickstart campaign (raising $25,000 in just 30 days!) he was able to bring his new experimental project to life, coming in a form of a 12-track collection, “The Nature of Us”.

On paper it seems a slightly odd combination, but in reality it can be argued that his upcoming album is a cross between Ed Sheeran and John Legend.  An acapella intro gets things started with “Kingdom Come” which effortlessly leads into an afterhours-style soulful RnB. The slick fusion continues with, “Already In Love” and “In The Eye”. The eagerly-awaited fusion was finally quenched with the two offerings thanks to the playfulness of the acoustic guitar, giving a hint of the folksy feel.

Among the experimentations, the Denver based alternative crooner reign it in with some undeniably tense and compelling pieces.  “Turn to Gold” is the first to interrupt the soul/R&B fusion with its simple yet powerful presence of the guitar along with Ansett’s John Legend –esque vocals and the momentary atmospheric bass , creating a ambient pop vibe. Deeper into the album and the intensity is increased by tenfolds. Also acoustic guitar-driven pieces, “Tragedy Is Not The End”, “New York” and “Wonderfully Made” gives a strong invitation to hone into lyrics that clearly pours straight from the heart.

With the folk/soul fusion, expectations of the crazy and wild fiddle against the soulful rhythms comes to mind, but  Ansett has turned these genres into something angelically pure that is very worthy of a worldwide appeal.

“The Nature of Us” is set for release on 23rd November. Pre-order your copy right here.
