Department M Reveal ‘Bleak Technique’ Live Anthologies Session Video

Leeds duo, Department M, have released an exclusive Anthologies Session live video for their new single ‘Bleak Technique’ which is released as a limited edition 7” vinyl on 7th August via independent label Hide & Seek Records and can be pre-ordered here. Alongside a pair of co-headline dates with Post War Glamour Girls in August, they’ve also announced a free entry show at Birthdays in Dalston, London on 10th October.

The new video sees front man Owen Brinley performing a haunting, stripped back solo version of the title track from the forthcoming single live at Lord Whitney HQ, filmed and recorded by Sean Gledhill. Removing much of the synthesised and driving rhythmic elements from the original, Brinley’s sparse and insightful song writing is laid bare to devastating emotional effect.

Brinley explains of the inspiration behind the new single; “’Bleak Technique’ is steeped in a kind of 21st century paranoia I’m noticing so many people around me starting to feel. With the onslaught of social media and technology tracking our every move, our lives don’t feel particularly private anymore and that can be a difficult feeling to shake. The song is an expression of wanting to immunise yourself from the perceived threats of a post-internet world…‘I’m only phantom, I’m only neutral’.
