Daft Punk’s ‘Homework’ turns 20

Daft Punk’s classic ‘Homework’ album turns 20 today. Here are a few facts about a record that’s often regarded as one of the greatest electronic albums of all time…

– the record’s journey began at a rave… at EuroDisney, where the duo – Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo – presented a demo to DJ Stuart Macmillan

– the promo video for the album’s seismic ‘Da Funk’ single was directed by none other than Spike Jonze

– the album’s title relates to, according to Bangalter: “the fact that we made the record at home, very cheaply, very quickly, and spontaneously, trying to do cool stuff”

– ‘Around The World’, the third single to be released from the album, features the titular phrase repeated 144 times during the course of the track. Its video was directed by Academy Award-winning French director Michel Gondry

– initially, only 50,000 copies were pressed up, in vinyl format as per Daft Punk’s wishes. However, production was soon accelerated after the runaway success of the record, which charted in 14 different countries.

Happy Birthday, ‘Homework’!
