Glastonbury will change its name to The Variety Bazaar

Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis has confirmed the festival will change its name upon a planned site move in 2019.

Speaking to Glastonbury FM’s Paul Cannon, he said when questioned about a title change: “The Variety Bazaar. It’s a good name, don’t you think? … But presented by the Glastonbury Festival Team; The Glastonbury Festival Team presents… the Variety Bazaar.”

The festival will move to a currently secret site – described by Eavis as “halfway to the Midlands” from its current Worthy Farm locale – in 2019, taking a fallow year in 2018. The reason for the planned shift – which apparently will not be a permanent fixture – is to protect the current site.

He acknowledged the move is a risk: “I’ve been a huge risk taker all my life – I mean, 47 years of huge risks really and so far, touch wood, I haven’t come unstuck… this might be one risk too far, I don’t know.”
