Gorillaz drop first song in six years ‘Hallelujah Money’

Animated band Gorillaz have released their first song in six years, ‘Hallelujah Money’.

The politically-induced comeback track was released just 24 hours before Donald Trump’s Inauguration, and features lyrics about business, power and humanity.

British artist and Mercury Prize winner Benjamin Clementine takes up vocal duties, eerily crooning a slow-burning theatrical tune in front of a screen broadcasting an eclectic montage of clips. The track is not typical of Gorillaz but it is peppered with their signature beats and synths, as well as the addition of gospel vocals.

Gorillaz- project of frontman Damon Albarn and illustrator Jamie Hewlett- are reportedly working on their first album since 2011’s The Fall. Currently there is no release date for the group’s next album but it is expected to be released later this year.

In October, the group began posting brand new content on Instagram and Twitter, resulting in ‘The Book Of Noodle’ which appears to be detailing the going-ons for the fictional characters. Since, they’ve released accompanying books for each character via social media, but no official word on a release date.
