King Crimson’s Greg Lake dies at age 69

King Crimson and Emerson, Lake and Palmer front man Greg Lake has died at age 69.

British musician and one of the founders of progressive rock – known for songs The Court Of The Crimson King and I Believe in Father Christmas passed away on Tuesday after fighting “a long and stubborn battle with cancer”.

The Bournemouth-born artist formed the band King Crimson in 1969 with Robert Fripp. King Crimson’s debut album In The Court Of The Crimson King was greatly received and well publicised by The Who’s lead guitarist Pete Townshend. After releasing two studio albums King Crimson’s reign came to an end when Mike Giles, one of the founding members, quit and Lake no longer wanted to work with the band.

Greg Lake’s passing marks the second loss for ELP this year with Emerson passing this March.
