Rising star BB Diamond visits ACM alongside manager and ACM Alumna Lucy Tallant

On Tuesday 5th April the Academy Of Contemporary Music welcomed pop artist BB Diamond through its doors for an Eagle 3 session and Q&A. Managed by ACM alumna Lucy Tallant (who first saw success in the music industry after her work managing fellow ACM’er Ebony Day), BB Diamond is a rising star who has seen features in leading music blogs such as The 405.

Prior to the Eagle 3 session, Lucy held a Q&A with Music Business tutor Mike McNally. The pair discussed Lucy’s career highlights, helping ACM alumna Ebony Day win MTV’s Brand New award 2013 and her achieving Music Week’s 30 Under 30 in 2015. Lucy spoke about the importance of social media in an artist’s promotional campaign and how it was her understanding of this that helped her achieve success in her career and with the artists she looks after.

Following on from the Q & A session, BB Diamond went on to record two tracks and do an interview with Eagle 3.

Assistant engineering the session was Music Production diploma student Jack Wells.

“I got this wonderful opportunity through ACM’s Industry Link team. The session has been great.”

It was BB Diamond’s first visit to ACM and she was suitably impressed with the state of the art facilities.

“When I walked into ACM, I was literally blown away. This is probably one of the coolest universities I’ve ever been to in my life.  Everyone is so nice.  I mean, the things that you’ve got here for students are incredible.”

Excited to be back at the Academy, Lucy gave her advice to students looking to follow in her footsteps.

“As an ex student here, some of the best advice I could give you if you want to be in management is that it doesn’t just happen overnight. It doesn’t matter if you just find some local kid playing in a pub who plays guitar or someone on the internet, but get out there and start experiencing what it’s like to actually manage an artist and deal with them and at the same time broaden your learning.  Make sure you understand all the different areas of the music industry because you’ll be expected to come up with plans and problem solve at every juncture. Other than that, just keep fighting for it. Don’t give up.”
