With all the potential to make a huge splash on the alternative scene in the coming months, it gives me great pleasure to introduce Music Crowns readers to the excellent MetaQuorum.
Based in the North East of England, this due of skilled Russian musicians are a pair who seem to shy away from the norm as much as possible. They create wild, weird instrumental rock music with a psychadelic funk edge. It’s a blend that doesn’t come along too often, and in this case it’s very well executed.
The latest single, ‘North Sea Fret’ (below) is a fantastic example of the warped sounds you can expect, and it’s not often that this level of creativity is exploited without more electronica influences (although there is a bit of that too). What could sound like a real mess, given its constituent parts, is drawn together by very smart arrangement and musicianship. You get the idea that everything is where it should be, and carefully placed for effect.
