Quirky UK rock/blues band J Lee and the Hoodoo Skulls release their debut single ‘Woman’

We are thrilled to be introducing this band….WOW!!!

A warm welcome to J Lee and the Hoodoo Skulls….

Described as a ‘fresh, instantly addictive blues rock band, with a unique but innovative sound with powerful meaty guitar riffs and gut wrenching vocals.’

This foursome got together earlier this year and certainly have intriguing accolades.

Fronted by Jason Lee Barratt of whom has adopted a phenomenal vocal range thanks to the lineage from his father (Shakin Stevens), but also honed his own sound which soars over the driving guitars of Harun Kotch on lead guitar and Luke Sohl Williams on bass.

Between them, the band themselves have already played every corner of the globe with international chart success, national award nominations, and have had music used for various advertising campaigns, (including Henri Lloyd and the Mercerdes Petronas F1 Team.)

This is all complimented by the driving force of Wayne Riches who is also the unshakable drummer for Skin (Skunk Anansie.)

Their debut single ‘Woman’ showcases an electric introduction to their sound, the video (above) has already gone semi viral within just a couple of weeks, with just under 24,000 views and features a Texan line dancing video filmed back in 2011 performing the ‘biker shuffle’. This Black Keys Lonely Boy-esq style idea appealed and the video itself fitted perfectly without an ounce of editing, and thus lead singer Jay Lee Barratt said:

‘I guess this is just meant to be.’

Is it overly amusing and a stroke of pure genius!

The track itself for ‘Woman’ is out on Friday 2nd December and available to pre order here:

Following this their self titled debut EP will be due out in March 2017.

The recording for the EP also fell into very safe hands with producer Dean James Barratt at the helm (Craig David, Sam Smith, London Grammar), and mastering by Pete Maher (U2, The Killers, Jack White) it only adds more to the group’s rapidly rising accolades of associate.

Their gritty vintage style image has also attracted the interest of European motorcycle clothing brand KLM Wear who will be using tracks from the EP for their up coming marketing campaign.

We are so excited to have come across this band…they truely are worth checking out and we await the next chapter.

Oh and if Nitin Sawhney likes them already- then it’s hard to argue with that!

Big, powerful guitar riffs with bone shaking vocals that soar between everything from T Rex to Tom Meighan. Exhilarating. Dust down your Harley and get trashed.”

Nitin Sawhney

Weighty 70’s tinged stoner rock that brings to mind big league players such as Sabbath, the Black Keys and Wolfmother.”

TAG Magazine

“Sleazy tequila-soaked rock ‘n’ roll riffage with tips of the cap to ZZ Top, Tame Impala and Rival Sons.”

XYX Magazine

“Dripping with a pulsing, fuzzy menace and deliciously sleazy swagger.”
