Belfast Hip-Hop. If you have continued to read after this statement then you are set to be treated to an introduction of a fresh and exciting new MC from the city. dsgrace is a 24 year old artist from Belfast who packages life and times lyrics with a bundle of cult references to provide gimmick free hip-hop from his first hand urban experience. Believing that others before him were quick to cash in on the troubles in the country and mainly focusing on issues such as sectarianism and askew social commentaries dsgrace set about to create something different.
The result of this is a combination of battle driven rhymes, spaced out metaphors and personal insights provided in a precise and original manner. After keeping quiet, honing his craft behind the scenes he has recently completed his debut album Adoxography, produced entirely by Belfast counterpart Noize Thievery. Sticking with the classic one MC, one producer formula the pair have birthed a hip-hop album for Ireland to be proud of. As well as getting their fingers dirty digging deep for some seriously obscure samples, the album is littered with lyrical gems and slick references guaranteed to bring a smirk to the face of those they click with. The stamp of a mind heavily influenced by the writing of Dick, Bukowski and Thompson is at work within the penmanship, connected by cinema and rich hip-hop history that will no doubt satisfy those of a similar sect. All this is done while still creating and maintaining a vibe that is strictly Belfast in nature.
Despite this being his first official release, dsgrace has experience beyond his years and has soaked up a great deal since to being introduced to hip-hop at a young age. His main musical inspirations comes from artists such as Wu-Tang Clan, Non Phixion, Jehst and Chester P as well as local contemporaries the Sewer Rats crew. After a period of cutting his teeth at open mics dsgrace is now enjoying his own headline slots and hopes to continue to build on this in the near future. Being blessed with sharp wit and the drive and determination to make music the way he likes means big things could be in store for dsgrace in 2015.
