There’s no ifs or buts about it – T. King was born to SING.
From a very early age, he’d belt out notes whenever he had the chance – from performing old favourites on the school bus to fellow classmates to demanding attention at his pre-school graduation by putting his spin on George Benson’s, The Greatest Love of All, delivering the classic in true Whitney Houston, jaw-dropping style. With such a performance, it comes to no surprise that he’s rapidly becoming a powerhouse-on-the-rise.
Born and bred in Raleigh, North Carolina to a mother, Linda King, who was a powerhouse herself, King grew up listening to a string of 70s/80s soulful heavyweights – Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Prince… and of course Whitney Houston. In fact the list of his influences could easily roll off this page!
T. King took his natural-born talent beyond the school bus – where there was a local talent show, he was right here! Raised eyebrows from music scouts brought in floods of opportunities to perform in clubs, music venues as well as talent shows – in and beyond his hometown. A knockout delivery of Usher’s slow jam hit ‘Nice & Slow’ in his local club had presented T. King an offer he couldn’t refuse. Lurking in the crowd was a music scout representing Apollo Theatre in Harlem who invited the slick newcomer to perform on television!
This is where the good times began to roll as T. King rubbed shoulders with the presenter of the show Steve Harvey, Def Jam Records A&R man, JoJo Brimm, Mystical…and the original members of Destiny Child.
T. King is a true testament that hard work really pays off. After practicing every note of any old school classic and new R&B releases, he captured each element from his soulful influences and adds his spin on modern soul and R&B that gives that toe curling sensation to audiences across the board – just imagine Babyface and R-Kelly existing in perfect harmony in one soul.
