DETERMINED – INTERVIEW WITH A POP SINGER JESSICA ALICE

Jessica Alice is a pop singer from Essex, UK. She recently released the EP “I’m Your Girl”. I spoke with her about the album and new songs, fans, favourite places and plans for the future.

Piotr Balkus: Your new EP “I’m Your Girl” is out now. Please tell us more about this new release.

Jessica Alice: Yes! I’m so excited that ‘I’m Your Girl’ is out. It’s one of my best pieces of work. It wasn’t planned to be an EP I had just kept writing tracks and one day decided to put them altogether on an EP. I’ve shot a video to every track on the EP and I will be releasing an ‘I’m Your Girl’ video EP this month.

Your new video to song “Knock Me Out” is out now. It shows a bit feisty side of you. Are you a feisty person?
No I’m not really feisty, but I can be very determined and single minded. If I have a new idea for a song or video I want as much control as possible, but that’s not to say I’m not open to other people’s opinions too.

The song “Knock Me Out” is very radio-friendly, and as I said it recently, weekend-friendly. Do you think this song might be a good soundtrack to weekends?

“Knock Me Out” does have quite a feel good factor for the weekend.

I would describe your music as party-pop. Do you think it’s an appropriate description?
I hadn’t really thought of it as party-pop, but I do think it’s pop, not cheesy and has a lot of R n B influences in it.

You are touring schools with your new music. What’s the reaction from youngsters?
I get a positive reaction towards my music, but I usually sing a recent cover so they can join in and sing-a-long.

You are from Essex. Can we hear Essex in your music?
Yes I am from Essex, but I have travelled a lot including the USA where some of my family live. I have also been singing at schools in Holland, Germany and Portugal. Last month I was in Portugal again filming a music video, so my music is not just influenced by Essex.

What’s your favourite place in Essex, and in London?
My favourite place in Essex is my studio and I love shopping in Oxford Street, London.

What are you plans for 2015?
As I’ve already mentioned I have been in the Algarve region of Portugal for a photo shoot and to film a music video for my summer single. I will be touring Europe and the UK, which includes solo and main support gigs. I also plan to do more writing and recording this year and will be the face of a new fashion range by designer Moniyang.
