Spoken word artist are unique people who take concisous topics and turn them into motivational speeches.  Victoria Amidou is one of those artist and recently a book of poems titled “Poetically Me” which caught out eye. Check out our interview with Victoria Amidou below!

What inspired you to do spoken word? Life and love inspired me to do spoken word. My words became my outlet as a teen going through puberty. Poetry became my vice and helped me cope with being different and often times misunderstood.

Do you find that being a minister and a spoken word artist ever conflict? Yes, there are times when I am performing and those that I have ministered to are shocked to find out that my material is so detailed and on the flip side of that my spoken word audiences are shocked as well when they learn that I am a minister. People sometimes think that just because I am a minister that I do not have a life outside of that. There are some who would think that being a minister confines me to a box in which I am not meant to come out of. I am a multi facet spiritual being who just so happens to be a spoken word artist and a minister

What inspires you when you are writing a new poem? My environment inspires me. I am always amazed at what I have written when I am finished because a smell, a sound, a color, or a thought can trigger the most inspirational poem.

When did you decide that this was your path? Well as a teenager writing become my catalyst and as a minister it was much later in my life when I stopped running from my gift and the chosen path that God had placed me on.

What inspired your book? My book was inspired by the spiritual transformation that I was in at the time. Life events have a way of shifting things into prospective for me and always at those times I am compelled to write for comfort and clarity.

If you could tell anyone who wants to write how to turn that into reality what would you say?

I would say let your story become your passion, decide what you want to accomplish by writing your story, then begin to write your story from whatever vantage point that you decide. Writing for me must come from my heart. I can’t write unless it is coming from the deepest part of me. I want my readers to feel what I have written. Everyone has different aspects when it comes to writing. So making it a reality can come in so many forms. Only the writer themselves can determine which form works best for them. I am a self-publisher or as some would say an indie writer. This works best for me.W
