angelicaa – A Pink-Clad, Queer-Minded Rock Chick

angelicaa

First and foremost a singer/songwriter and guitarist, meet the the pink-clad, queer-minded, rock-chick, angelicaa. She combines her rock roots with her influences in the rise of electronic music to produce her debut EP ‘& So..’.

The music is grungey and soulful, much like her inspiration from Alice In Chains, Led Zeppelin, Cat Power and PJ Harvey. ‘& So…’  and the lead single ‘Nail Polish’ captures teenage angst and growing up while feeling different. When asked, angelicaa states that she finds “beauty in that struggle” which has allowed her to create something that is “moody, sentimental, and ultimately, uplifting”.

In her spare time, angelicaa DJs as part of the duo Jew² and have played London queer venues such as Dalston Superstore and Vogue Fabrics.

Music isn’t the only string to her bow either. She is a Fine Art graduate from Central Saint Martins with a specialty in documentaries; her latest film ‘Full Circle’ is now available on Vimeo.

Her identity is a big part of who she is too, and it is easy to see from her Instagram page that pink is her favourite colour. She cites this colour as the main visual outlet for her communication;  her clothes and her hair is pink and so is the cover of her EP. Her intention behind this is to reclaim pink as a symbol for androgyny and to empower herself as a woman while challenging expectations of gender.

Along with her bandmate Lewis, angelicaa will soon be gigging around her native London. The set will contain the tracks from her EP as well as some unreleased tracks for us to look forward to.
