Beyoncé directed a movie about herself and it’s coming to Netflix

Beyoncé has directed a film following her 2018 Coachella comeback show.

Netflix has today released the full trailer for Homecoming, a feature-length documentary film which is described as an “intimate, in-depth look at Beyoncé’s celebrated 2018 Coachella performance reveals the emotional road from creative concept to cultural movement.”

The film, which Beyoncé hinted at to fans with a teaser image over the weekend, will comprise equal parts interviews, candid and concert footage.

In 2018, Beyoncé became the first black woman to headline Coachella, treating festival attendees to a two-hour set which notably paid tribute to America’s historically black universities.

The trailer features rehearsals and candid moments of the singer in the run-up to the landmark concert, all set to a recording of the late American poet and civil rights activist, Maya Angelou: “I want to be representative of my race — the human race, I have a chance to show how kind we can be, how intelligent and generous we can be. I have a chance to teach, to love and to laugh. I know that when I finish doing what I’m sent here to do I will be called home and I will go home without any fear, trepidations, wondering what’s going to happen. […] Tell the truth, to yourself first, and to the children.”

Homecoming premieres on Netflix worldwide on 17th April.
