Britney Spears’ family seeks to extend restraining order against former manager Sam Lufti

A Los Angeles judge will today consider whether to extend a temporary restraining order taken out by Britney Spears against her former manager.

The hearing on the restraining order against Sam Lutfi is a resumption of one that began on 28th May, with Spears’ lawyers alleging that tweets and texts from the former manager to Spears and her family are causing her emotional damage.

Lufti and his lawyer argue that the order, which prohibits him from making derogatory statements about Spears or her family, is a violation of his constitutional rights.

In court documents obtained by ET Online Lufti said: “There has been no psychological or other evidence offered by Ms. Spears that she has actually suffered any distress” adding that he “could not have caused a reasonable person to suffer the requisite substantial emotional distress” to be served a restraining order and as such signifies a “blatant violation of his constitutional rights.”

Spears’ family previously sought a restraining against Lutfi in 2009 under similar circumstances. Lutfi alleges that, aside from “a brief and non-confrontational text message with [Britney’s mother] Lynne Spears” he has not reached out to the singer directly in the decade following the first order.
