Sir Ringo Starr is working on a new album

Ringo Starr is currently in the studio working on a new record, Billboard has confirmed.

The announcement came in an email from Starr’s representatives last night (Sunday, 17th March), which read: “He has been working on a new record for a few months,” his representative said in an email.

There’s still no word on when the new album is set to be released.

The first hint that Starr, who turns 79 in July, was hard at work on new material was on March 14th, when the iconic drummer’s recording engineer Bruce Sugar posted a picture of Ringo, All-Starr Band guitarist Steve Lukather and himself on Facebook, captioned simply: “Another great day in the Studio…”

Shortly afterwards, Ringo tweeted: “In the studio again with the great Steve Lukather what a guy. Peace and Love.”

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Starr recalled how the formation of the All-Starr Band in 1989 saved him from his descent into alcoholism.

“The blessing was I was in a band and we had each other,” the former Beatles drummer explained, “Yeah, after a couple of months, one of us would be going off the rails whether someone was having to drag me back”
