Solange speaks up for Durham protester then deletes Twitter account

Solange has deleted her Twitter account following a message of support for activist, Takiyah Thompson.

The last few days have seen an increased amount of political tension surrounding Charlottesville’s white nationalist rally which took place on Saturday. The singer has previously voiced her intolerance on social media for the racism and violence on display, with her final tweet addressing the plight of Takiyah Thompson. Check out Solange’s last tweet below

Thompson, a 22-year-old Carolina Central University student, was arrested for taking down a Confederate monument in Durham, North Carolina. Although a legal defence fund has been created to aid those arrested, the activist was charged with two felonies and two misdemeanours. As seen above, Solange’s tweet addressed the situation stating “What we got to do to get my new hero Takiyah Thompson free.

After deactivating her Twitter account, the ‘Cranes In The Sky‘ artist posted a statement on her Instagram story. In the story, she voiced her frustration about current events and her concern about her son’s education.

Fuck white supremacist. fuck nazis. fuck your stale ass bland ass monuments. fuck asking folks to be graceful.” See a screenshot from her Instagram story below.

Killer Mike, Questlove, Neko Case and more have expressed their outrage for the recent events in the United States. Wilco, Wolf Eyes and Mineral have started to raise funds for the Southern Poverty Law Center and those affected by Charlottesville’s devastations.
