Thompson, a 22-year-old Carolina Central University student, was arrested for taking down a Confederate monument in Durham, North Carolina. Although a legal defence fund has been created to aid those arrested, the activist was charged with two felonies and two misdemeanours. As seen above, Solange’s tweet addressed the situation stating “What we got to do to get my new hero Takiyah Thompson free.”
After deactivating her Twitter account, the ‘Cranes In The Sky‘ artist posted a statement on her Instagram story. In the story, she voiced her frustration about current events and her concern about her son’s education.
“Fuck white supremacist. fuck nazis. fuck your stale ass bland ass monuments. fuck asking folks to be graceful.” See a screenshot from her Instagram story below.
