Christy Drops Acoustic EP ‘Somebody Else Instead’

Glaswegian singer-songwriter Christy has revealed a tender new EP ‘Somebody Else Instead’, including the brand new single of the same name.

The EP offers a chilled yet emotional collection of songs. The soft wail of ‘Forever’ continues the journey of a love lost and mourned, handing hope over to ‘A Better Place’ (mixed by Jonathan Gilmore [The 1975, beabadoobee, Rag’n’Bone Man]) with its lugubrious piano and closing with the heartwrenching, half-broken, vocals of ‘Somebody Else Instead’ – the most vulnerable moment on the record.

“‘Somebody Else Instead’, the title track of this stripped back acoustic EP, is a song I wrote that perfectly encapsulates the feeling I felt when I was trying to move on past a relationship,” says Christy. “I felt like I was just trying to replace them constantly. Then I had a thought, that when you are in a relationship, all you really do is waste your time with that person, so maybe that’s what love is, wasting your time with the right person but having the most fun doing nothing.” He continues. “This whole EP is my journey up to now of how I have felt about moving on. I hope everyone listens to this and hears every bit of emotion I have felt making it.”

Christy burst onto the scene with his debut EP ‘Homegrown’ in 2020; a suite of songs that mixed the vocal tenderness of Jeff Buckley or Chris Martin with the swirling musicality of Bon Iver. Since its release, Christy has gone from zero to well over a million streams on Spotify alone, and earned the accolade of One To Watch from Amazon Music UK and Wonderland Magazine, as well as The Lowdown, and OUT NOW Magazines.
