Irish 4-piece ‘The Flavours’ release latest single ‘Other Song’

Irish 4-piece ‘The Flavours’ releases their latest single ‘Other Song’, produced by Grammy-nominated producer Chris O’Brien. Known for their eclectic sound, the band take heavy influence from classic soul, funk and indie rock, all of which can be heard in their latest single ‘Other Song’.

The track takes the listener through the timeline of a relationship, from its inception to breakdown and finally looking back after the relationship is finished. Backed by a delicate arrangement of instruments framing frontwoman Ella Compton’s soulful vocal performance perfectly. The track Interweaves emotive lyrics with a well-defined sonic palette that expands as the lyrical content moves from each stage of the relationship.

The band explains the concept further “ The song is ultimately about a breakdown of a relationship. This breakdown is not because the protagonists don’t love each other but because their own individual mental health isn’t at the right place to give each other what they need. The first verse and chorus mirror the simplistic opening stages of the relationship, followed by a rhythmically and harmonically different bridge to represent changes in the protagonist’s feelings. The final crescendo takes place sometime after the relationship is finished, with a retrospective horn idea mirroring the backing vocals.”

Hailing from Cork, Ireland the band consists of cousins Julian Power and Jordan Roche forming the backline on bass and drums respectively, complementing the decadent guitar playing of Jordan Devlin and the mesmerising vocals of Ella Compton. Since their inception in 2018 the band have released two EP’s to date, ‘Send It’ and ‘(The) Love Life’ along with a plethora of singles garnering support from the likes of Nialler9, Golden Plec and BBC Radio Ulster to name a few. The band also gigs extensively throughout Ireland with sold-out and headliner shows at  Winthrop Avenue, Cyprus Avenue, and Everyman Palace Theatre, along with festival appearances at Wild Roots Sligo and Guinness Cork Jazz Festival. With the release of their latest single ‘Other Song’ along with further releases expected and plenty more live shows, 2023 is shaping up to be a busy one for The Flavours.
