Laurel Smith unveils edgy track ‘Out The Cage’

Hailing from North London, rising star Laurel Smith has unveiled her first release of the year, the anthemic new single ‘Out The Cage’. Offering dark and dreamy electro-pop fusions with powering beats, Laurel’s distinctive vocals narrate a mesmerising story, which is elevated further by a cinematic music video. Directed by Jeremie Brivet and Jai Garcha, the iridescent visual ushers us into a world of old Hollywood action and surreal video games, showcasing Laurel’s innovative mind.

Speaking about her new single, Laurel reveals: “‘Out The Cage’ is a song about breaking out from your constraints, both physical and mental. Although it can be interpreted in any way, when I wrote it I created a story around a bored housewife, falling out of love with her husband, she fantasises about tying him up and leaving him to be a badass assassin in a video game type world, roaming the city at night and living a life of unpredictability and excitement.”

Since she began writing songs at the age of sixteen, Laurel Smith has continued to adapt her sound and aesthetic with every song she’s released. Blending underground trap beats with smooth R&B melodies and catchy, pop-style lyrics, Laurel has carved out a distinctively hazy, moody-pop vibe that she’s come to be known for. Inspired by empowering female icons ranging from Lana Del Ray to Ashnikko, Smith’s creativity and potential is unbounded.
