Legendary New York Hip Hop MC Son Of Bazerk releases ‘2020’ new single & video featuring Michael ‘Kidd Funkadelic’ Hampton

While there’s still another two months left in the most chaotic year any of us can remember, legendary old school hip hop MC Son Of Bazerk (a member of the Public Enemy/Bomb Squad family), rolls 2020 (thus far) into an incendiary three and-a-half-minute masterpiece of a track. From Covid and lockdown to George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and more, everything is in Bazerk’s finely focused scope as he takes aim at the sh*tstorm year that rang in a new decade 10 long months ago. Complete with quoting one of the most controversial rock lyrics ever written, and aided and abetted with blistering guitar from Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee/Guitar Hero Michael “Kidd Funkadelic” Hampton, ‘2020‘ is a no-holds-barred indictment of the year humanity lost to inhumanity.

“Normally I don’t even go in that direction,” Bazerk comments, “but it’s been such a fucked up year I couldn’t help myself. And, unfortunately, it’s pretty easy when you’ve got this much material to work with!”

True Groove Record’s production team, Tomás Doncker & James Dellatacoma, reunited Bazerk with guitarist Michael “Kidd Funkadelic” Hampton (who played on the acclaimed Bazerk! Bazerk! Bazerk! album in the early ’90s) for some guitar pyrotechnics that ratchet the track to an apocalyptic level of intensity. “Mike’s bringing something you don’t hear in hip hop, and it’s a beautiful thing,” he notes. “James & Tomás sent me the raw track. I wrote the lyrics, put it together and sent it back to them. No chorus, no nothing. Just lyrics. I believe James put the the hook together. I told them, ‘y’all do the rest, arrange it how you want and we’ll knock it out.’ They did that, I cut the track, they brought in Mike and it was all over.”
