Listen to DIIV’s cover of Sparklehorse’s ‘Cow’

DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith has shared a brand new cover of seminal US indie rockers Sparklehorse’s ‘Cow’.

Smith posted the track on Twitter yesterday, in anticipation of a forthcoming one-off show in New York next month – a show which, he announced previously, will feature both new music and covers. Lolling, considered and stately in its execution, the track is a fitting tribute to the original and its tragic composer Mark Linkous. Linkous committed suicide in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 2010.

This is the latest in a series of covers the singer has posted – recently, Smith shared a cover of (Sandy) Alex G’s track ‘Icehead’. The band’s version of ‘Cow’ features Deerhoof‘s Chris Cohen on drums and Benji Lysaght (Ambulance LTD) on guitar and is the first new DIIV release since Smith’s stint in rehab.

The original track can be found on Sparklehorse’s 1995 debut album Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionsubplot.

DIIV will be performing at Brooklyn, NYC’s Murmrr Theatre on Thursday, 17th August.
