NYC-based grime artists put NYC on the map with latest single ‘Sun’s 4’

It’s well known that Grime music originates from London, a genre steeped with a complex racial and political history. In recent years, it’s been seeping into the mainstream, gaining popularity not just across the UK but also worldwide. Four New York based artists have  collaborated on a project that is spearheading Grime music in the US. On brand new track ‘Sun’s 4’, producer Aions creates a sub-bass heavy and swirling Grime sound, providing the backdrop for MCs Dutchguts, Gi Major and Lord Of Ciphers to provide compelling verses. Combining traditional UK Grime influences with hip-hop vibes, these four talents are pioneering a New York strand of the genre that marks the start of a new wave.

‘Sun’s 4’ is set to be released on Sedimentary Sound, the record label founded by longtime duo Aions and Gi Major of EARTHTONE. Speaking of the track, they revealed: “’Sun’s 4’ is a bit of a double entendre. The track represents the energy that the four of us cultivate through our shared love of grime, while also symbolizing the inevitable sunshine after dark days.”

Over the past few years, the New York quartet have been establishing relationships with their grime counterparts overseas. A recent visit to London included a feature on Rinse FM, a performance at Sofar Sounds and a cypher at Pirate Studios alongside London MC’s. The four have also been hosting cypher’s throughout their home city, cultivating the Grime scene in New York. This new single marks the continued global expansion of Grime, and the start of a big new chapter for EARTHTONE.
