Singer-songwriter KTL releases latest alt-folk offering ‘When I’m Awake’

Singer-Songwriter KTL releases latest alt-folk offering ‘When I’m Awake’, self-produced by KTL, the track blends fingerstyle guitar with electronic elements to create an alt-folk track that’s raw, emotive and cinematic.

‘When I’m Awake’ includes themes of self-discovery, isolation and independence, written about KTL’s own personal experiences the track tackles how to balance two competing sides of yourself when at a crossroads in life, sadness for losing the old and familiar along with excitement and apprehension of what’s to come.

KTL explains further “I wrote this song at a time in my life when my friends were all moving away, and the emotional turmoil I felt during that period, it felt as though I was losing something I had wanted and worked for a long time to achieve. At the same time, there’s a part of me that enjoys independence and solitude, and I felt that I was rediscovering that part of myself and learning to balance the two. The song ends with a plea to move on and find new sources of happiness in life, because in the end that’s all we can do.”

Hailing from the bay-area KTL real name Kyle Tessier-Lavigne originally trained as a classical guitarist. Inspired by contemporary artists like Jose Gonzalez, Ben Howard and Bon Iver, his minimalistic style creates soulful Indie/folk tracks that have captivated audiences from Sofar Sounds to the Santa Cruz Music Festival. Now based out of New York City KTL is looking to bring his unique sound to east coast audiences.
