The Describers release new single ‘Leaving Early From the Big Goodbye’

Philadelphia based band The Describers just dropped their latest song, ‘Leaving Early From the Big Goodbye‘. The song has a feel-good, upbeat energy that they pair with a message many listeners can probably relate to. Written and recorded by frontman Jason McGovern, the track tells the story of feeling out of place at a party and wanting nothing more than to quietly slip out the door.

The lyrics describe someone stuck in their own head, overwhelmed by small talk, and watching the minutes tick by until they can leave. “Crowded hall, reluctant face / Urgently searching for a quiet space / Distant eyes and a heavy heart / Trying and failing to play right parts.” McGovern says, “I’ve always been fascinated by the ‘missed connections’ personal ads that existed once upon a time, and thought it would be interesting to set a song ruminating on a missed connection.” McGovern explains. “This felt like one, just at the end of the world.”

The song was recorded partly in McGovern’s home studio and partly at Kawari Sound near Philadelphia. It also features drums from Eric Slick of Dr. Dog and was mastered by Ryan Schwabe (known for work with Beach Bunny and Hop Along). Since 2018, The Describers have been blending folk, rock, and indie vibes—and ‘Leaving Early From the Big Goodbye’ shows they’re still finding new ways to tell honest stories.
