Beatles drummer Ringo Starr receives knighthood

Ringo Starr, the drummer of the Beatles, has received a knighthood for his services to music.

He received the honour during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace from the Duke of Cambridge. Following his acceptance of the award, the 77-year-old music icon said to the BBC that: “It means a lot actually. It means recognition for the things we’ve done. I was really pleased to accept this.

Ringo explained that he met Paul McCartney for dinner prior to today’s ceremony where McCartney, who received his own knighthood in 1997, told him what to expect.

Last week, Paul and I had dinner in LA together and we were talking about Liverpool to here. It’s mad!
