Kanye West has donated $73,540 to Chicago mayoral candidate Amara Enyia.
His donation comes less than a week after Chance the Rapper backed the candidate in her bid to replace Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
An email statement on Enyia’s official campaign said: “The Amara Enyia campaign thanks Chicago native, Kanye West, for his generous action. Amara’s campaign is energizing people around the city with bold ideas and solutions that move Chicago forward. We are excited to engage people of all walks of life as we focus our efforts on getting on the ballot.”
The donation from the rapper has been a make-or-break sum of money allowing the candidate to run, following a hefty fine she received after her 2015 campaign for the same role.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Enyia was fined $73,540 “for not filing quarterly campaign finance reports as required by law.”
It was stipulated that if Enyia did not pay the fine by December 20th, she would be unable to run as a mayoral candidate.
