Drake breaks Adele’s Billboard Music Awards record with 13 wins

Drake received 13 prizes last night (21st May) at the Billboard Music Awards, that’s more than any other artist in a single year.

The previous record was set by Adele who collected 12 prizes at the award ceremony in 2012. Drake was nominated for 22 awards in total at the Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena which tied him with The Chainsmokers for most nominations in a single year.

The More Life artist’s wins included the distinguished Top Artist prize which he secured over Beyoncé, Adele, and Rihanna and Top Streaming Song for his hit track ‘One Dance‘. Other wins by the 6 God included; Top Male Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top R&B Collaboration, Top Radio Song and Top Selling Song, amongst others.

Drake was awarded his Top Artist prize by Prince Jackson, son of the late Michael Jackson.“I got my whole family up here,” Drake announced as he was joined on stage by his father, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj, among others.

Beyoncé and Twenty One Pilots both won five prizes each whilst The Chainsmokers finished the evening with a total of four.

The evening concluded with Drake delivering a performance of his ‘Gyalchester‘ track from the recent Octobers Very Own More Life mixtape. Other performances from the evening included music from Ed Sheeran, Lorde, Bruno Mars, Imagine Dragons, Nicki Minaj and Cher.
