Jay Z will be producing Trayvon Martin documentary series and film

Jay Z is set to produce a film and documentary series on Travyon Martin, based on a book, Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin. The book was written by Martin’s parents Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton.

The rapper will be teaming up with the Weinstein Company to produce the six-part documentary and film. It will also be based on two other books Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to Repeat It, which the company also acquired the rights to.

The company managed to acquire the rights after a bidding war for the story. There was outrage across America as the 17-year-old was shot dead by George Zimmerman in 2012.

Jay Z has other upcoming projects with the Weinstein Company including an In the Heights film adaption and a Richard Pryor biopic.
