Nicki Minaj has spoken out about sexism in the hip-hop industry stating that “women must work TWICE as hard“.
Following praise from rapper Russ who claimed she doesn’t get the respect she deserves, Minaj took to Twitter to bring light to the still ongoing gender issues within the world of hip-hop. “In any field, women must work TWICE as hard to even get HALF the respect her male counterparts get,” the ‘Anaconda‘ singer wrote. “When does this stop? The greats collaborated w/Drake, Kendrick & Jcole b/c they’re dope MC’s. They collab’d w/nicki cuz someone pulled a gun to their heads… ??.”
Minaj continued on citing a 2010 tweet from Kendrick Lamar where he stated that men hate her music. “This is so telling,” she wrote. “And scary. I’d have to wear some baggy pants n timbs for men to openly give props.” See Nicki Minaj’s tweets below.

Putting ppl in the same sentence as me after my 10 years of consistent winning. What are you teaching THEM? They’d never do this to a man.

In a recent interview with Billboard, the female rapper discussed her position in hip-hop saying: “There wasn’t a big female rap presence right before I got in. So, my role was really reintroducing the female rapper to pop culture.” She later slammed media outlets for their coverage of her words. “If you can find the part where I said ‘I made female rappers mainstream,’ I‘ll give you $100,000.”
