Cleveland Singer/Songwriter Tracy Marie has released her new album, A Dark Place, produced by chart topping, platinum producer, Jim Wirt (Fiona Apple, Incubus). The twelve song album features some of Cleveland’s top professional musicians in Tony Kazel, Ed Stephens and Nick Ammons. “Working with Jim Wirt, who has worked with artists I’ve really been influenced by, was a great experience,” says Tracy Marie, “The musicians on the album did an amazing job translating the 90s grunge vibe that I was going for with this project.”
Tracy Marie also dropped the lead single from the album, the title track “A Dark Place”. “I wrote the song “A Dark Place” when I was feeling as though I was in a dark place,” explains Tracy, “That feeling of doom created a space for creativity. I hope when people hear the song that they know that everyone goes through dark times in their lives and that they are not alone.”
Tracy Marie has released an accompanying music video for “A Dark Place”. She tapped her friend Tony Schaffer at Oddfellow productions to direct. ” “I live in a century home where the basement is kind of a dark place, and I thought this would be a good location for a video for the song,” Tracy explains, “Tony brought in some additional great ideas, and together we came up with the premise for the video including me immersed in a bathtub full of light bulbs.”
The video quickly became a group effort. “When I told my friends about the plans for the video they started showering me with costumes that work for the video,” says Tracy, “Tony recommended designer Jasmine Gonzalez and his partner Ryan DeBarbrie edited the video together within a week. It couldn’t have turned out better.”
Cleveland Singer/Songwriter Tracy Marie has written hundreds of songs, released 6 albums and has performed professionally for more than 20 years in the Rock, Blues and Folk scene. Her performances have included venues from nursing homes to the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and back home at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame where she received a nomination for “Rock Hall Riot Girl” in 2008, an award also received by Joan Jett. In addition to performing, Tracy has been the director of the Breastfest Cleveland, an annual benefit helping breast cancer patients and families going on it’s 21st year and featuring female fronted bands from the north coast.
Tracy’s music is her connection to her community, where she has made herself known as an outspoken advocate for disability rights and strives to improve care for those with rare diseases. She herself was diagnosed with a rare condition called Morquio Syndrome, a type of skeletal dysplasia caused by a missing enzyme. Still, she continues to write, record and perform her music despite her physical challenges.
Tracy will be celebrating the release of A Dark Place with a performance on Friday, August 13th at Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio.
