Watch Jeremy Corbyn’s surprise appearance at The Libertines gig

Jeremy Corbyn surprised  The Libertines fans on Saturday (20th May) by making an on-stage appearance at the Wirral Live Festival.

Prior to The Libertines headline festival slot, the Labour leader gave an unexpected speech at Prenton Park, home to Tranmere Rovers FC.

Gracing the stage Corbyn was welcomed with a delightful reception from the crowd of thousands of festival goers. The MP delivered a rousing speech that encouraged people to come out and vote on 8th  June in the upcoming General Election.

This is a fantastic chance and opportunity,” he said. “Merseyside has a history of music, and is the music capital of our country. I want a country where everybody can play sport if they want to, every child can learn music, and society is brought together by that. Do you want housing, do you want care, and do you want a society coming together? Or, do you want selective education and fox hunting?

Many were surprised to see Corbyn take to the stage over the weekend but following the event, many voiced their support via Twitter.

Other acts on yesterday’s lineup included Little Mix, Madness, Reverend & The Makers and The Coral.
