Playing acoustically, James Mercer started with ‘Mildenhall‘ and ‘The Fear‘, both from this year’s Heartworms album. Then, reaching far into his back catalogue, he plucked out a delightful rendition of ‘Young Pilgrims‘, from 2003’s sophomore effort Chutes Too Narrow.
Seeing this clutch of songs performed together, in such bare bones arrangements, emphasises the timelessness of Mercer’s songwriting – in all points of his career.
