You can now mute artists you don’t want to hear on Spotify

Spotify has announced plans to roll out a new feature which will give users the ability to hide certain artists and stop their tracks from automatically playing.

The update is already available on many users’ accounts, discreetly listed under the “…” category on an individual artist’s page.

Listeners can select “Don’t play this artist,” and the streaming platform will essentially prevent any of the artist’s music from auto-playing playlist or radio station.

Additionally, in order to listen to a muted musician, Spotify users will need to manually unmute said artist.

The update comes after Spotify removed it’s ‘Hateful Conduct’ policy which removed controversial artists such as XXXTentacion and R. Kelly from playlists.

The move received criticism for giving an arbitrary streaming platform full control over listeners moral compass – it was redacted a month after it was implemented.
