Mitch Bradford Soars on New Single “I Can Fly” (Exclusive)

California-based country artist Mitch Bradford is living life with little worries in his brand new single “I Can Fly” which is out now on all streaming platforms ahead of his forthcoming anticipated album, Close. Embedded in a laid-back melody, “I Can Fly” finds him high on life and invincible in all endeavors. We caught up with Bradford to chat about the song, his recording process and more ahead of the single and album release. Check out the brand new track now and listen here.

What is “I Can Fly” about? What does the song mean to you?

“The song is about how love can make you feel like a superhero. I wrote the song during the pandemic. I was sitting on the grass outside my apartment having dinner with my girlfriend and she asked if I wanted to go up the block to grab some wine with dinner. I’ve struggled with addiction, so I have to be smart if I’m ever going to drink. In that moment, I thought no — I’m feeling great right here. I don’t need a drink or drug because I’m feeling great right now. Love can make you feel like a superhero. That’s what the song is about. I wrote it the next day.”

What do you hope listeners take away from the song?

“That love can make you feel like a superhero! “You can climb up walls. You can move through doors. You can fly!” That’s the superhero power of love.”

What was your experience like writing and recording the song?

“We recorded it on the second day of the sessions. We found a 90s rock vibe to pair the lyrics with and it really complements the themes of the song (love, addiction, triumph). We wanted some of that hardness and edge there, and we found it in the music. The band crushed it.”

With previous singles “Slow It Down” and “More Than Life,” the tone of the album has been solidified, paving the way for the eight additional songs on the soon to be released Close. All of Bradford’s early influences lay right below the surface of each track weaving a intricate web of 70s rock with what he’s coined California country. A longtime Fleetwood Mac fan, he even had the unique opportunity to record the record at the iconic Studio D at The Village – which the band designed and utilized for much of their own music. The record is a turning point for Bradford who has previously released four projects including a live album. A first of its kind, the record was funded entirely by crypto currency. For Bradford, this feat was more than a flashy selling point, it was about believing in himself and forging his own path in an industry often driven by gatekeepers.

Now, the Texas native is just getting started. With over 1 million streams on Spotify with fan favorites like “Love Is Kind” and “Sweet Defender” Bradford is using his zest for life to create deeply meaningful music sure to appeal to anyone it reaches.
