Premiere: Young Astronaut – The Chronicles Of Fall & Glory

Lifted from their recently-released album, A Gold Frontier, Young Astronaut have unveiled their brand new single, ‘The Chronicles Of Fall & Glory’.

By name and by nature, the cut presents two auras conspiring to work against each other. Mechanical rhymes are deployed by a perfunctory voice determined to be the bearer of bad news until a solemn falsetto lifts the mood to a more hopeful place. But it’s the propelling rhythm section and sobering piano that create an air of finality that can’t be overcome, underscoring the track’s reigning message: you can only play the cards you’re dealt. It’s a sentiment that’s continued by director Rich Dimery in the Saloon bar-style visuals that accompany the track.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the clip Dimery said: For The Chronicles Of Fall & Glory, we opted for more of a low key, simplistic narrative. The idea was to follow a card game with players getting eliminated as the song progressed. I liked the idea of this looking like it could have taken place in the back room of a saloon bar in the late 1800’s or early 20th century. This also allowed us to have the players get ‘eliminated’ a little more creatively. Narratively, this video was probably more inspired by western movies, and Tarantino. Aesthetically, I liked the kind of Peaky Blinders style tilt shift shots, probably inspired by the portrait photography of the time and the misaligned bellows, and soft focus of traditional large format camera.”
