Alternative Great Escape Day Stage, TGE Brighton 2023.

I was lucky enough to catch some great artists on the Alternative Great Escape Day Stage at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton.

Germein

Opening the stage to a packed crowd, this trio of sisters certainly woke us up, with unique vocals, great performance and undeniable songs they were so fun to watch with drummer Carla popping out from behind the kit to get the audience clapping, they won some new fans from that performance.

Reb Fountain

Slinking around the stage like a cat, Reb is what would happen if Stevie Nick’s and Kate Bush were to collide, her folky punk sound and stage presence has the audience captivated, a fellow audience member described her sound as lush, the dictionary definition of which is ‘very rich and providing great sensory pleasure’ and that cannot be more true.

Connor Mac

Kiwi Connor is the full package, he stands on stage alone with an acoustic guitar and a pedal board, perfect hair, toned arms and a voice smooth as silk. His set shows off an immense talent as a songwriter and instrumentalist as well as a singer, his music is alt R&B, its folk, its unique, this guy has what it takes to go stratospheric.

Aimée

A denim clad Aimée takes to the stage and she is pop perfection in a pint sized package. She is here without backing dancers, its TGE after all! Her gentle stage presence has us hooked but don’t underestimate her, she has a huge vocal range and Y2Kesque bops reminiscent of Robyn, she has all the makings of a pop diva with epic break up anthems and indisputable vocals you will be seeing her in stadiums in no time.

Zoon

What sets Zoon apart is their refreshing disregard for conforming to a predefined “look.” These talented musicians effortlessly weave together ambient and alt-rock, creating a sonic tapestry that will envelop you in its ethereal embrace. They march to the beat of their own drum, unapologetically embracing individuality and allowing their music to speak volumes. It’s evident that they prioritise substance over superficiality, and their music is a testament to their unwavering dedication to their craft and the crowd watching them is enthralled.

CIVIC

A mosh pit opened up before the vocal hit, CIVIC’s set was one hell of a ride, their frenetic sound and frantic stage presence was contagious with the crowd’s energy levels rising with each song. The band have been approved by Henry Rollins which is no surprise. Go and watch CIVIC, this is a start of something, and you want to claim these bragging rights.

And in true punk fashion they overran.
