30/30

Guy Chambers and James Craise

30 days, 30 great tracks, 1 great opportunity

Over 30 days in November, 30 unsigned artists from across the UK will work with some of the biggest names in the music industry to record their tracks in the EMI studio at the Roundhouse, before releasing them on Roundhouse Records and performing at Roundhouse Rising Festival in February.

Joining forces with EMI for the fourth year of 30/30, the groundbreaking youth music project will offer unsigned artists between the ages of 16-25, one day in the Roundhouse’s EMI Live Music Studio, along with top guest producers including Guy Chambers to professionally record and mix their track for free.

Selected tracks created throughout November will be compiled for the 30/30 Album 2012, which is released by the Roundhouse’s in-house label Roundhouse Records and is available to buy via iTunes, with all of the proceeds going towards creating further opportunities for young people within the arts.

The lucky acts chosen by the Roundhouse team will also have the opportunity to put their questions to a panel of experts from all areas of the industry at a special event in December, followed by a performance at the Roundhouse’s new festival, Roundhouse Rising in February 2013. 30/30 is non-genre specific and aims to attract an eclectic variety of artists.

Janie Orr on behlaf of EMI says: “We’re very pleased to support the Roundhouse’s 30/30 project once again after the success of the last three years. It’s a great idea, offering practical and valuable help and guidance to young people who are interested in music.”

This year the Roundhouse are also partnering with Newcastle based music development agency Generator and music download site Livewire to help support nationally by sourcing acts to participate and providing recording opportunities in their local areas.

Oli Kluczewski, Music Programme Producer at the Roundhouse: “As always it’s about providing incredible opportunities for aspiring musicians looking to enter the creative industries and this year we’re able to deliver this on a national level thanks to our partners. Its also exciting this year that the music, released on Roundhouse Records, will be showcased at Roundhouse Rising, our new music festival”.

Joe Frankland, Artist Development Manager at Generator says: “We’re proud to support musicians and music businesses across the UK and we’re very excited to be working in partnership with the Roundhouse on the 3030 project. We’ve seen first-hand effective the project is and we’re thrilled to be involved this year in selecting artists and producers and in providing support to emerging artists through our Artist Development programme.”

The submission deadline for 30/30 2012 is 5 October. Application details can be found at www.roundhouse.org.uk/3030, which also has previous 30/30 albums available for listening.

EMI has been a founding corporate partner of the Roundhouse since 2003.
