Progressive House, Chill out and House music specialist Harmonic Heroes is taking the Dance music scene by storm with his unique musical vision and immense talent. Coming from a musical background, Brad Huggins, the man behind the Harmonic Heroes moniker has quickly fallen in love with electronic music and has never looked back ever since.
Whilst already putting his signature on many top-notch projects, Harmonic Heroes is cooking up new material to be released in the months ahead, so we’ve decided to have a chat with him to get to know him better and unveil some of his future plans.
Hi, how are you and what’s going on in your world at the moment?
Hey, I recently released a single, ‘When I Met You’ in late August 2015 and I am looking forward to another release that will be available on Sept 8, 2015
Which part of the world do you call home?
I’m lucky to call the EDM hub city, Dallas, Texas USA my home.
What’s the meaning behind your moniker?
Well, I really wanted something with alliteration and musical terms in it and after a friend noticed me removing unwanted harmonics from a sound with an equalizer plug-in, the name was born.
For those who are not familiar with your music – how would you describe your current style?
My music is a blend of elements from various genres and eras, combined together using a 4 on the floor kick pattern and dance beats. This intricate combination is a part of what makes my music relatable and appealing to a wide audience. I enjoy incorporating warm, deep bass-lines, euphoric pads and strings and filtered plucky timbres to set the heart for my music.
Has your sound gone through any turning points?
Yes, over the years my sound has evolved dramatically, similar to many other passionate musicians. During high school and college, I played guitar in Rock and Alternative Rock bands. My diverse background in music has definitely enabled and enhanced my understanding of what it takes to make good music in any genre. I always had a deep seated interest in EDM and in 2010, I made the decision to combine my sounds, create new ones, and devote my energy and talents purely to this magnificent world.
Where do you draw your influences?
I draw my influences from all over – environment plays a part. A moment in time in my life and the feelings with which it is associated, plays an even bigger part. And of course past and present artists and producers inspire me in different ways as well.
You are a trained Classical and Jazz musician. When and how did you fall in love with electronic music?
I was hooked around age 12, once I started making sounds with a computer based synthesizer. Exposed to a wide variety of music during my youth, like Pop music, Disco/Dance, Hip-Hop, and Break-beat, aside from my formal music training, seems now only natural that I would have turned to producing the very music I’ve always loved.
Do you consider yourself more of a producer or DJ?
I am definitely more of a producer, but I do DJ often. Performing music at an early age, I’m actually getting back to my roots and will soon incorporate live instruments, drums, and/or synthesizers into my DJ sets. I consider myself above all to be a true musician and artist and I honestly just look forward to continue bringing those vibes into my music and shows for everyone to enjoy.
Walk us through some of your highest career points so far.
Ah man, I’m really humbled right now. I am extremely happy to have released some original tracks internationally – that is a big moment for me right now. Also, for the past few years, I’ve hosted a bi-monthly radio show podcast that highlights the hottest, most current top hits in EDM, Progressive House, and various House tracks. You should tune in sometime. The show is titled, ‘RGDM – Really Good Dance Music’. It’s published on iTunes and SoundCloud under Harmonic Heroes.
Where would you like to see yourself in the months ahead?
In the months ahead, I will be continuously writing, and continually releasing more new, original tracks. Stay tuned, as I will soon announce my upcoming performances in the near future.
Are you planning any projects this year?
Yes! I’ve been ultra inspired this year in particular. My creativity has been rolling non-stop, and I will be releasing one or more new, original tracks every 6-8 weeks through the end of the year.
Who do you look up to musically?
In EDM, I look up to people like EDX , Kaskade, and Above and Beyond, not only because they have been consistent, amazing producers for many years and stayed true to their sound, but also for how humble they’ve remained to their fans and the scene – they have contributed so much to EDM. Outside of EDM, other artists I look up to and are inspirational to me are Madonna, Prince, Depeche Mode, and Dave Matthews Band, just to name a few, but there are many, many more.
If you could choose, who would you like to collaborate with?
I would be highly interested in collaborating with vocalists like Bright Lights or JES, being enamoured by their unique, powerful feminine voices, or producers like EDX, Dinka, Nora En Pure, CamelPhat, Me and My Toothbrush – their sounds are so groovy, so clean, and it permeates your bones with that intense feel good vibe!
Your all-time favourite track?
Wow, that is so hard. It is impossible for me to pick just one! There is so much good music out there in so many different genres and eras. Each track touches me in a different way. For example, sometimes in a song the lyrics and melody solely capture my attention, and in other songs, I may be attracted to some technical aspect. Either way, any music that possesses the ability to catch my attention is a favourite to me. A track that gives me something to reflect upon is a favourite.
Tell us something not many people know about Harmonic Heroes?
Residing in downtown Dallas, TX, in a remodelled 1920s historic bank building left some challenges to create the perfect studio. However, currently, two former elevator/lift shafts make for a really cool studio that gets the job done well! Both the building and studio space definitely make for a very unique and inspiring environment.
Anything to add/shout outs?
Just a big “Thank You” to everyone that has supported me and I look forward to bringing you more great music in the future.
Thanks!
