Since exploding onto the scene Juanito has been causing a huge uproar in the House and Techno scenes, thanks to his impressive arsenal of top-notch productions. After Roger Sanchez discovered the young French man from Grenoble in 2011, things have only been on the rise for the multitalented artist. With releases on renowned labels like: Stereo Productions, Stealth, Sanity, Witty Tunes and SK Supreme, Juanito has been gaining regular support from heavyweight DJs such as: Marco Carola, Roger Sanchez, David Penn, Stefano Noferini, Dale Howard and Joeski to name a few; an achievement many can only dream of. Outside of the studio, his infectious records have landed him to extensively tour Europe, playing some of the biggest clubs in Ibiza, London, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Lyon and Montpellier, as well as his hometown Grenoble; securing his status as the ‘next big thing’ to come out of France. We had a chat with Juanito to talk about his rise through the Dance music ranks.

Hi Juanito, it’s a pleasure to ask you a few questions. For those who aren’t familiar with Juanito, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi! It’s a pleasure and thank you for having me. My name is Jonathan Aguilar, I am 27 years old and I come from Grenoble in the south of France. I’m a DJ/Producer operating in the Tech House scene under the‘Juanito’ alias and I’m also part of a crew called WHSNXT.

What’s going on in your world right now and where are you based?

At the moment, I’m working hard in my home studio finalizing some projects! I’m still based in my hometown, Grenoble, France!

How did you first become involved in the music industry and what made you decide to pursue a career as a DJ and producer?

Firstly, I fell in love with electronic music and DJing when I walked into a club for the first time. If I remember correctly, I was 15. Making people dance was what I always wanted to do, which led to me wanting to produce my own music. After that I wanted to play my tracks in clubs, add my signature and develop myself as an artist! Everything progressed naturallystep-by-step!

It’s all about the groove!

You’ve released tracks on renowned label such as Stereo Productions, Stealth Recordings and Witty Tunes to name a few, how does it feel when label’s of this calibre tell you they want to sign your music?

I take it as a sign of recognition for all the hard work in the studio; this allows me to set new goals; I don’t hesitate to challenge myself.

Marco Carola, Roger Sanchez, David Penn, Dale Howard and Stefano Noferini are a few of the heavyweight names that are supporting your records. How does it feel knowing that these guys are supporting and playing your music?

Having that kind of support helps to motivate me! When I know that an artist plays my music, I try to contact them, firstly to thank him and then to ask for some advice and keep in touch.

In terms of your studio setup, can you tell us a bit about it and your favourite bits of gear?

I’m working with an iMac, 2 x Yamaha HS5 Monitors, Korg R3 and Native Instruments Soundcard. My DAW is Ableton Live 9 (which is for me is the most intuitive) with a bunch of VST and sample libraries! My favourite piece of gear I think is Rob Papen’s Subboombass synth.

How much time do you spend in the studio?

Wow, in recent months I have spent entire days locked in my home studio; but I love it!

What do you look to for inspiration when in the studio?

Sometimes I have ideas in my mind, and everything comes easily! If not, I listen to a lot of music, hoping to get inspired. I also share my ideas with my friends of WHSNXT; it really depends on my mood!

What can we expect to hear coming out of your studio in the next few months? Do you have any big releases on the way?

I have some EP’s already planned for the forthcoming months. I also produced a rework of Junior Jack’s classic track ‘Thrill Me’ that I’ll give away for free soon; I’m already received great feedback so far!

You have had the pleasure of playing at various venues around Europe, including venues in Ibiza, London, Barcelona, Lyon and Montpellier. Do you have a venue to play at and what has been your most favourite gig so far?

Yes and it was nice! If I have to choose my most favourite gig, it would be in Lyon when I opened for Marc Houle last year!

Do you have any exciting gigs or tours in the pipeline?

Yep, I’ll be playing in Nancy, Lyon, Grenoble and Chambery (French cities) inside the next few months. I’m also very excited to play with Oxia and Agoriaon the 30th of April in my hometown! It will be awesome!

If you had to choose one artist to collaborate with, who would it be? Unhesitatingly, The S-Man: Roger Sanchez!

What can we expect from Juanito in 2016?

Lots of groove! Lots of releases, and I’ll maybe see you on the dancefloor!

Thanks Juanito!

You’re welcome!
