Milky Chance unveil new track ‘Doing Good’

There’s a reason why Milky Chance’s ‘Stolen Dance’ is one of the most shazam-ed tracks in history. The German duo have a knack for creating tracks full of feeling and nostalgia, and their brand new cut is no exception. Following a similar formula to their calling card hit, ‘Doing Good’ features a sparse arrangement where the elements move in different directions, but work together as a whole. The bass groove is stuck on a stutter, while the drums roll over in waves and frontman Clemens Rehbeins’ sparse melody climbs upwards to his familiar gritty yelp. And of course, there’s that trademark scatting guitar that acts as the backbone of the song.

The main attraction, however, is Rehbeins’ ever-melancholic lyrics. The track is supposedly about telling someone you’re ‘doing good’, when really, you’re not. The frontman captures that feeling perfectly with the monotonous and repetitive melody that takes over for the hook. Despite the underlying message in the song, Milky Chance still manage to maintain their upbeat, summery blend of folk.
