They say that you should never judge a book by its cover, and the same should of course be said of new music. But I must admit – as soon as I laid eyes on the brilliant artwork for the new album from The Lowriders, I immediately fell in love.
Beautifully realised but grungy in style, it’s colourful but dirty, fun but filthy. A brilliant concept, and one that carries over to the album as a whole. The music is grungy, beautiful, colourful, dirty, fun, filthy and a whole lot more. Whether it’s the beautiful piano lines of ‘Glorious Victorious’, the crunching guitar and bass of ‘Here & Now’ or the layered electronic vocal effects of ‘I Am Soldier’, this is an idea of varied pros and very few cons.
It is both impactful on first listen, and also an album that grows on you. I judged this one by its cover, and it lived up to expectations.
