Listen to Brooke Nickerson’s I’d Rather Go Blind

Following on from her previous UK singles, Broken Seams and Take These Chains, the Colorado-born singer Brooke Nickerson is back with another big single.

Her latest release sees her teaming up with The Undercover Band for a cover of the enduring classic I’d Rather Go Blind, as made famous by Etta James. The result is a very successful adaptation of an R&B song that has also been covered by the likes of Paul Weller and Beyoncé Knowles.

Nickerson’s version is affectionate and inspirational and includes a delicate piano coupled with plenty of slide guitar, an infectious beat and lashings of feel-good Southern soul.

Having spent a year in development and finding herself being compared to Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, and Sheryl Crow, Nickerson feels ready to take on the world with her music which is something that is evident in her latest release. Her sound is now much brighter and well rounded in a way that leaves you wanting more. Luckily, we don’t have long to wait as I’d Rather Go Blind is taken from what will become her forthcoming EP That’s Why I Came Here. This really is a teaser for what’s to come since Nickerson is currently finishing the tracks to what will become her debut album.

In I’d Rather Go Blind, Nickerson provides her audience with the ability to escape the realities of modern life and is perfectly enjoyed while slowing things down in the evening with a glass of wine.
