The popular voice training program, Sing with Freedom at TheSingingZone.com has recently seen a surge in enrollment amongst the ‘Rock and Pop’ sector of its students. The recent success of popular reality television programs and contests for singers may have helped give motivation for more advanced, contemporary-style singers to up their game, but there may be more to it. The program offers pre-recorded, singing lessons online, which address a student’s unique needs, and skill level, aiding in their quest for a higher quality sound to their vocals.

“Rock singers often want that unique, edgy sound quality in their vocals. Some want to be able to discover how to sing high notes effortlessly. Others want to develop the depth and richness in their voice.

“Traditional singing training that focuses on singing scales and old ideas of posture and breath-control techniques, and teaches the person to create sounds in what has believed to be a 'correct' and 'proper' way, seldom help the rock singer. Rock singers know this. Therefore, many rock singers shy away from voice training, and understandably so. Many believe that they can come by that sound naturally and without effective vocal training. But many also run into serious voice problems” says Per Bristow.

Without effective training, a singer could easily blow out their vocal cords or develop a whole host of problems associated with the tension created by reaching for those high notes. Even incredibly successful singers who we assume have been well trained develop voice problems. There are many explanations for why that might happen, but night after night of performing with stress and strain can cause a lot of damage. This certainly explains why singers of this genre want to be more prepared and are seeking out instruction to do so.

Per Bristow’s method, which has become know as the Bristow Voice Method, has been known to be exceptionally effective for rock singers. He approaches vocal technique from a place of developing physical (kinesthetic) awareness as well as inner confidence. He even offers up that the way to singing those high notes effortlessly has less to do with scales, and developing range in the more traditional fashion, than it does in releasing tension and developing the necessary muscles that few people know how to access.

Many rock singers feel they need to apply a lot of effort when they hit their upper range. Many realize the tension that is created, but don’t know what to do about it.

Bristow remarks, “You simply cannot perform night after night, if you hit those big songs and those big notes with a lot of tension - it’s a recipe for disaster. On the other hand, when the singer discovers when he can actually get more power with less effort, his physical voice not only becomes freer, but he also become a far more effective performer. I help singers discover freedom to their voices and also freedom to express the way they want to express, in the style they want to express, and to be able to do it night after night."

The Singing Zone, which has created an enormous online presence for itself and has garnered thousands of students and success stories from over 102 nations, demonstrates it’s ability to help that desire for self-improvement. Surely television programs such as The Voice, or American Idol, can serve to motivate a singer to want to improve. The Sing with Freedom singing training program and The Singing Zone, offer students the ability to explore their potential at their own convenience, and in the privacy of their own home.

Per Bristow is a vocal and performance coach based in Los Angeles, California. He is the creator of The Singing with Freedom program and The Bristow Voice Method - the method that for more than 15 years, has empowered thousands of singers and speakers from over 100 nations to repair, build and free their voices. “The Bristow Voice Method is designed to bring the individual to significantly greater levels of well-being, self-confidence, creativity and health, in addition to dramatically and rapidly improve communication, presentation and performance skills.” For more information on any of these programs, please visit http://www.TheSingingZone.com or http://www.BristowVoiceMethod.com.
