49 Burning Condours thunders in with a powerful explosion of excellence on 7-track release Seventh Hymnal

49 Burning Condours is a Philadelphia, USA-based indie Southern Gothic group who make music that is impossible to ever forget in a hurry.

Seventh Hymnal was written during the pandemic; a time of abounding uncertainty, where death loomed around every corner, and chaos lingered in our world, homes, and veins. Our songs are dripping with stories of grief, bodies floating down the river, men drowning to a siren’s song, and of the gods worshipped, who turned calamitous. Seventh Hymnal is not only an outpouring of all the things we wanted to say but couldn’t express in regular words to those we loved and even to ourselves, but a benediction and examination of a woman’s role of power in the world of men.” ~ 49 Burning Condours

From flowing bodies and dripping in honey, 49 Burning Condours have built a masterpiece here. Each note is ear-slicing and extremely warm on the heart. Bayou stands out as probably the best track here, with Red Drum Skin and Chapel Hill being such incredible songs to close your eyes with.

‘’Seven came before, and seven remain – each the individual cry of a moor creature. Each the rapture from the mouth of a lost, salting soul. Each the stricken chord of a swamp thing’s eulogy. Each a plague.’’ ~ 49 Burning Condours

Seventh Hymnal from Philadelphia, USA-based indie Southern Gothic act 49 Burning Condours is something rather special. They seem to breeze in softly and leave a mark that will cause you to listen again. Everything is natural and feels just right, with their exceptional sax and soulful vocals, mixing into our palates just like perfection.
