Adam Wendler is on ‘Thin Ice’ with their latest twist on modern folk-pop

Like many artists during the 2020 lockdown, Canada-born, Berlin-based indie-folk singer-songwriter Adam Wendler swapped the practice room for Zoom to create their new material. This time, he teamed up with the UK band, Tors to orchestrate their soul-baring latest single, ‘Thin Ice’.

Baring all in a folk-inspired soundscape is nothing new, but the anthemic euphoria in Thin Ice discernibly is. Forget the usual Mumford & Sons and Lumineers references, Wendler created a sonically rapturous masterpiece with Thin Ice which stands in its own right contains the same evocative power as the most tender tracks by Elliott Smith and Tom Waits.

Thin Ice captures the insecurity which has a habit of manifesting when you’re in awe of a partner, those feelings of not-good-enough-ness creep in and almost make you want to self-sabotage to end the anxiety. The self-scrutinising yet gratified lyrics playback familiar haunting thoughts, but the intensity of the single is enough to stir up those fuzzy feelings which start to effervesce every time your ‘favourite person’ plays on your mind. It’s an unfiltered, unapologetic, radio-ready single which demands to be played. Loud.

Adam Wendler has been making waves ever since the release of their first album ‘Never Go Unknown’ in 2017, COVID-19 may have forced them to anchor their plans; but after releasing their most powerful song, to date, you can expect plenty more from the quite literally luminary artist in 2021 and beyond.
