Watch Brother Zulu perform their modern jazz track ‘Lately’ for BBC’s Artist of the Week

Brother Zulu are a modern jazz group who combine their individual musical backgrounds to create anything from grime to funk.

Led by Lawrence Ajadi and Max Tuohy, two musicians with distinctively different backgrounds, Brother Zulu are blurring the lines between musical genres. Tuohy, who previously signed to RCA records, has performed alongside a number of influential artists including Jason Mraz, Dizzee Rascal, Ed Sheeran, Newton Faulkner, Ellie Goulding, and Eliza Doolittle. His counterpart, Ajadi, is an adept jazz pianist and a classically trained flautist.

The London group appeared on the BBC last week performing as their ‘Artist of the Week‘. They shared a personal look into their creative process performing an acoustic rendition of their track ‘Lately‘ from the recent Under A Minute EP. Packed with bluesy, soft tones, smooth refreshing vocals and an intense amount of soul, ‘Lately‘ is an incredible contemporary jazz offering. Watch below.

The merging of these creative minds creates the one-of-kind dynamic Brother Zulu will be famous for. Furthermore, electric live shows featuring the other members of Brother Zulu (the incredibly talented bassist Nathan Knight and drummer Yousef Abdelkhalek) will be erupting all over Europe.
